Where Do Hydrovacs Get Water From?

Where Do Hydrovacs Get Water From?

Hydro excavation is an efficient process, including in how it sources water.

Industrial cleaning and excavation tools like hydrovac trucks can use a lot of water to get the job done, whether it’s blasting ash off of machinery or digging a trench to install a light pole. Where do hydrovacs get water from? Jet Blast Inc. has the answers.

What Is a Hydrovac?

A hydrovac is the same thing as a hydro excavation truck. While they seem like two completely different words, they refer to the same technology. These trucks use water to blast through dirt and vacuum up the resulting sludge.

Where Do Hydrovacs Get Water From?

“Where do hydrovacs get water from?” you ask. They contain the fresh cleaning water in a portable tank on the truck. It is a part of the design. In winter, it is common to use hot water to cut through frozen dirt, especially in Canada and other cold regions.

How Do Hydrovacs Work?

Hydrovacs blast the water in its tank through a high-pressure hose. An industrial vacuum removes the resulting mix of dirt and water and contains it in another tank. A good analogy for how hydro excavation works is dental cleaning. A dental hygienist will use one tool to clean teeth with water and another to suck up the used water. In the case of hydrovacs, they dig holes for maintenance and construction, usually of utilities.

Benefits of Hydro Excavation

Hydro excavation is an effective way to cut through soil, especially in frigid weather. It is also a very safe way to excavate, as pressurized water will not damage underground utilities like a shovel can. In fact, most damage to utilities happens because of shovels. Using a hydrovac truck to excavate or install utilities is precise and sufficient; it is no wonder that it is a standard practice in construction!
