The Dangers of Sewage Water

Flooded residential street at a stop sign

If sewage water leaks, there’s a reason or two to take caution!

There is no question that sewage is disgusting. In short, it is waste carried by water. This waste could be the dirt off your hands when you wash them, the stuff in public restrooms, or the debris that comes off cars at a car wash, just to name a few. Sewage water, also known as wastewater, carries dirt and debris of all kinds, solid and microscopic, down the drain. Sometimes, however, it fails to stay down the drain and can leach into the environment. What are the dangers of sewage water, and what does Jet Blast Inc. have to do with it? Stay tuned and keep reading!

The Dangers of Sewage Water on the Streets

Some areas, such as major cities like Washington, D.C., have combined stormwater and sewer systems. When a heavy rain occurs, the sewers can overflow and the stormwater mixed with sewage can surge up onto the streets. At a minimum, the smell alone can cause a great deal of annoyance. However, the real consequences can be much worse.

The result is an environment that risks contamination. The sewage water introduces pathogens of all kinds that are harmful to human and animal health. It can spread many diseases that can cause death, like e-coli and hepatitis A. Even when the sewage water has drained away and the roads are dry, the microscopic debris that remains could be health hazards.

The Dangers of Sewage Water in the Environment

Floods on streets can be avoided, but what about sewage leaks into natural waterways? If not mitigated, such leakages can end up killing thousands of marine life and contaminate sources of human drinking water. These sources, which include natural waterways and reservoirs, go through a water treatment plant before flowing toward people’s faucets and showerheads. Even so, water treatment plants do not have as rigorous a decontamination process as wastewater treatment plants do.
